I write this newsletter today, my last for Abcon as an Intern, with a heavy heart. The past eleven odd months have been such an incredible experience. It’s hard to articulate my feelings that have grown so strong for not only the internship but the great people I have worked alongside.
On my first day, I thought I’d have a rough time at Abcon, be it the daily commute, early morning starts or working for the first time in an office alongside professionals much more learned than me. Of course, my worst fears were quickly forgotten as I realised that the only abrasives were kept on the manufacturing floor and hadn’t crept into any personalities (all puns intended). The warm, friendly and comforting atmosphere never left, and this must stand a credit to the operational customer service based manufacturing approach to business throughout the company.
As for my learning, I don’t believe that any other internship could have presented me with as many opportunities, experiences and practical training. From managing a Google Ads campaign within the parameters of a budget and commenting on web analytics, to implementing a new product system in the form of the abrasives budget box and attending seminars with up-to-date information on a host of topics, the Abcon Internship surely has it all. The mentorship and advice I received throughout the internship stand second to none and have well equipped me with skills for not only the return to the final year of Commerce in UCD but also for future working life.
There isn’t one thing I could fault the management team or employees in Abcon for. Everything from the environment, culture and business lessons have unknowingly shaped me into a more well-rounded and better person. It is evident that this has percolated through, from those I have worked closest with and the general business ethos implemented by management.
Yes, I am regretful to leave through the doors of Abcon for the last time today; although I am even more delighted to have taken the opportunity to learn from some of the best in Irish industry and take with me experiences to last a lifetime.
